ABOUT WILL
Will grew up on a small beef and sheep farm in Cornwall, where alongside farming, his father bred a few hunters and was master of the North Cornwall Hunt.
Horses, hunting and farming have always been Will’s passions. He broke in his first pony aged 13, and with the help of his father, learnt about breaking-in and the early education of young horses and ponies over the next few years, breaking-in more than 30 horses and ponies each summer. These ranged from moorland ponies to coloured cobs and thoroughbreds.
Will is one of the country’s most successful amateur jockeys. The highlights of his career in the saddle so far include a Cheltenham Festival winner in 2009 on the Venetia Williams-trained Something Wells, two victories in the Irish Champion Hunter Chase at the Punchestown Festival (2018 and 2019) aboard the Rose Loxton-trained Caid Du Berlais, and a win in the 2023 Aintree Foxhunters aboard Famous Clermont for trainer Chris Barber. Will has been placed in the Cheltenham Foxhunters’ several times now and is chasing successe in this prestigious races in the coming seasons.
In October 2018, Will married top international showjumper Harriet Nuttall, and the pair now live and work in Somerset, with their two sons Archie and Oliver. Will has set up an excellent base for his own breaking-in and pre-training business from the many contacts he has developed over the past years he has been in racing.
